All second-year AME students of HIET Aviation College (Batch 158, 159, and 160), with 3 faculty visited Indian Oil Aviation, Meenambakkam, Chennai International Airport, to gain practical insights into aircraft refuelling operations and Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) handling.

During the visit, the students were briefed on the complete ATF handling and distribution process, from its transportation through pipelines from Manali to Meenambakkam to its storage in seven vertical fuel tanks. They learned about the filtration process through which the fuel passes before being transferred to refuelling bowsers (fuel tanker vehicles).

The students were also introduced to the aircraft refuelling procedure, including essential safety precautions, preventive measures, and the procedures followed to ensure safe and efficient fuel delivery to aircraft.

This informative industrial visit provided students with valuable practical knowledge of ATF storage, filtration, transportation, and aircraft refuelling procedures, helping them connect their classroom learning with real-world aviation operations.

The visit was an enriching learning experience that enhanced the students’ understanding of aviation fuel management and the critical role of safety in aircraft refuelling.
